What did you do before you became an author? If you are not writing full-time, what other work do you do?
I’ve always been an altruist, constantly dreaming up ways to make a difference. Prior to writing, I served as Director of Corporate Affairs and Philanthropy for Polo Ralph Lauren. I’ve also worked or volunteered for numerous government, political, and nonprofit organizations including the White House, the United States Senate, three presidential campaigns, two presidential inaugural committees and Special Olympics.
What is your favorite thing about being a writer?
I really enjoy spending time with the characters in my head--crafting their stories, creating opportunities to show their humor and heart, and dreaming up unique ways for them to navigate challenges and opportunities. My other favorite thing about being a writer is knowing that my stories might someday inspire kids to go after their dreams--to make the world a better place or whatever their dreams may be.
What inspired you to write this book?
I love reading with my children, Mattie and Jack. Our favorite books tend to be centered on kindness, positive change, and giving. I wanted to put stories into the world written in the same spirit.
What type of book are you writing? What draws you to this category?
SYLVIE is a chapter book series. I really enjoy writing in this category because I think it’s an ideal format to showcase a mix of action, adventure, drama, comedy, and perhaps a very subtle lesson on the side. I also think kids are quite funny at this age so I find the stories super entertaining to read and write.
What would you like potential readers to know about your book?
I hope the SYLVIE books show kids that with hope and determination they can do anything they set their mind to.
