How long have you been writing?
I’ve been lugging around notebooks and sketchbooks and pencils and pens since I can remember.

What did you do before you became an author?
I’ve been a cashier, a waiter, an editorial assistant, an editor, a publications manager, and a ghostwriter!

What is your favorite thing about being a writer?
Getting to meet kids and talk about books with them – both the ones they are reading and the ones they are creating themselves!

What inspired you to write this book?
I hope to create books that are fun and funny, that give kids a little something to think about, and that make them excited to read another book as soon as they finish mine.

What type of book are you writing? What draws you to this category?
I have two chapter books coming out (GEEGER THE ROBOT: GOES TO SCHOOL and GEEGER THE ROBOT: LOST AND FOUND), and also a graphic novel. I love writing for kids this age because it’s at this age that so many of us first fall in love with reading. Getting kids more excited about reading and books is why I do what I do.

What would you like readers to know about your book?
Though these books may be short, they took forever to write. Well, not actually forever. But a long, long time. Don’t be fooled by the length of a book. For me, at least, the shorter the book, the harder it is (and the longer it takes!) to write.

What are your social media handles?
I’m on Twitter at @Jarrett_Lerner and Instagram at @jarrettlerner.

Tell us one fun fact about yourself!
I’ve got a pair of titanium rods in my left foot. So, I’m kinda sorta part robot!

Geeger the Robot: Goes to School

(Aladdin/Simon & Schuster, September 2020)

Written by Jarrett Lerner, Illustrated by Serge Seidlitz

Geeger the Robot is going to school. But not robot school…a school with kids, the human kind! Geeger isn’t used to human ways, and his zany misunderstandings and overly literal responses to instructions lead to quite a few mishaps. He’s starting to wonder if he can even make it until snack time! Will a bot made of wires, nuts, and bolts fit in with a classroom of kids?

Geeger the Robot: Lost & Found
(Aladdin/Simon & Schuster, January 2021)

Written by Jarrett Lerner, Illustrated by Serge Seidlitz

Geeger the Robot gets along great with the class pet, Fudge the Hamster—they both spend a lot of their time eating and share a love for mushy bananas. But when Fudge goes missing, some of the kids in Ms. Bork’s class think Geeger might be to blame! Could Geeger have eaten Fudge?! He certainly wouldn’t have done so on purpose. But Geeger has been known to eat things by accident before. With the help of his best friend Tillie, Geeger puts his strengths to use to find Fudge and clear his name!
